Volleyball Moves to 2-0 in A-10 After Shutting Down La Salle, 3-0

How It Happened
The Rams (8-7, 2-0) rolled to a 25-10 victory in the first set and went up 2-0 after winning a much closer decision (25-22) in the second set. La Salle (1-18, 0-1) jumped out to a 5-0 advantage in the third frame before Rhody used a 10-3 run to pull ahead, 10-8. The Rams remained on top the rest of the way, outscoring the Explorers 15-10 down the stretch to complete the sweep.

Inside the Box Score

  • Callan Kinnan led all players with a match-high 34 assists. She has now led URI in assists in 14 of the team's 15 matches.
  • Lizzy Scanlon and Franki Darnold also turned in match-bests with 23 digs and 13 kills, respectively.
  • Layne Self registered a pair of blocks, as well as 12 kills. She finished the match with a .500 attack percentage as she recorded just one error on 22 attacks.
  • As a team, the Rams combined for a .307 hitting percentage, registering 45 kills opposite just 10 errors. At the other end of the court, La Salle totaled 35 kills over the three sets to go along with 15 errors (.185).
  • Cate Seman finished the night with five aces, marking the fifth time this season she posts a team-high in aces. She also added seven digs in the win.
  • As a team, Rhody had eight aces, while La Salle managed just three. 
  • The win moves the Rams to 2-0 in Atlantic 10 play, marking the first time since 2010 that URI posts back-to-back wins in the opening weekend of conference play. 

Stat of the Night
10 years - The amount of time that has passed since the Rams won their first two A-10 road contests. During the 2003 season, URI collected a pair of 3-2 victories at both Fordham and Duquesne.

The Rams return to Kingston for a Wednesday night (7 p.m.) match against in-state rival Brown.
