KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island had a strong day on the Raritan River, winning three of four races at Rutgers Saturday.

Racing on the Raritan for the first time in eight years, the Rams won the Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8 and Third Varsity 8 races against the Scarlet Knights. Rutgers did manage a win in the Varsity 4A race.

For the second straight season, Rhody's top boat (pictured right) held off Rutgers in the Varsity 8. It was the strongest performance of the season for the Rams, finishing in a time of 6:33.7 to beat Rutgers by nearly six seconds.

In the Second Varsity 8, Rhode Island continued its strong season, as the boat improved to 5-0 on the year. The Rams dominated, winning by 22 seconds with a time of 6:42.4. Rhode Island's depth on the top two boats is apparent as the Varsity 8 and Second Varsity 8 have been separated by less than eight seconds each of the last two weeks.

The Third Varsity 8 – which featured several rowers who have rowed on the Varsity 4B earlier this season – won by more than 20 seconds. The Third Varsity 8 missed a sub-seven minute time by less than one second.

Rhode Island will be off next weekend before heading to Bloomington, Ind. for a two-day event against Indiana, Notre Dame and Alabama Feb. 25 and Feb. 26. That will be the team's final tune up before the Atlantic 10 Championship on Sunday, May 4 in Fairfax Station, Va.
