How It Happened
The two teams held each other scoreless for the first 78 minutes of action. In the 79th minute George Washington's Nicole Belfonti dribbled down the left sideline to 6 yd box and shot top shelf beating Rhode Island goalkeeper Katie Nickles. Less than nine minutes later the Rams tied it up on goal scored by Ari Stanton who took a head flick from teammate Emily Wakeford and was able to beat GW goalie Emily Conway.
The game would remain tied one-goal apiece for the rest of regulation and for the first overtime period. Six minutes into the second overtime frame the Colonials Mackenzie Cowley scored the golden goal on a header from inside the box.
