How it Happened
Rhode Island (0-4) and Maryland (2-2) combined for just five hits on the afternoon as the Terrapins edged the Rams 1-0 to take the series opener.

URI grounded into inning-ending double plays in the first and fourth innings. It appeared as though Maryland would do the same in the bottom of the fourth, however an error on a double-play ball allowed the Terps to score what would prove to be the game-winning run.

The Rams were unable to put a runner on base the rest of the way, going down in order in each of the five frames.

Inside the Box Score

  • Rhody's only hit of the game came in the top of the first, when senior Connor Foreman singled to right with one away. He has now recorded a hit in each of his last seven games, dating back to last season.
  • Foreman also reached base in the fourth inning after being hit by a pitch.
  • Senior Steve Moyers was outstanding on the mound for the Rams, allowing just four hits over eight complete innings. He finished with five strikeouts opposite two walks but was charged with the loss. His only run allowed was unearned.
  • Maryland's Mike Shawaryn matched Moyers inning for inning, allowing just one hit over eight frames. He also struck out five - with zero walks - to earn the win.
  • Ryan Selmer retired the Rams in order in the ninth to pick up the save.
