How it Happened
For the second day in a row, runs were at a premium but this time it was Rhode Island coming out on top in a 2-1 victory over Maryland.
The Rams (1-4) got another outstanding performance from their pitching staff as Tyler Wilson allowed just four hits through seven innings before Jake Rockefeller and Tyler Barss locked things up with a scoreless eighth and ninth.
Rhody took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as back-to-back Maryland errors allowed Connor Foreman to score after he had singled with one away. However, the Terrapins (2-3) knotted things up in the bottom of the third when Nick Dunn reached on an error and then scored on Maryland's first hit of the day - a double by Kevin Smith.
The Rams wasted no time reclaiming the lead though as Olmo led off the fourth with a double to center and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Jordan Powell. A perfectly placed safety squeeze by Matt O'Neil then allowed Olmo to cross the plate for the 2-1 Rhody advantage.
From there, the Terps had runners in scoring position in the fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth, but were unable to push any additional runs across as Rhody held on for the 2-1 victory.
