How it Happened
Maryland (3-3) rallied back from a 7-2 deficit, using an eight-run fifth inning to take over the lead at 10-7. The Terps added a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth to push it to 11-7.
Rhode Island (1-5) chipped away in the top of the eighth as Matt O'Neil (single), Ryan Olmo (error) and Connor Foreman (walk) loaded the bases for Chris Hess, who singled to center to drive in O'Neil. All runners then advanced on a wild pitch, making it 11-9 before an RBI single by Jordan Powell plated Foreman and cut Maryland's lead to one (11-10). Powell then stole second to eliminate the double-play, but that was as close as Rhody would get as a strike out and a groundout ended the threat with Powell and Hess on second and third.
The Terps went on to score three more in the bottom of the eighth for the eventual 13-10 win.
Rhode Island had led 4-0 in the top of the third - and 7-2 after four and a half - but was unable to recapture the lead after Maryland's fifth-inning outburst.
