How it Happened
Indiana State (8-5) jumped out to an early lead, using back-to-back two-out hits to push one across in the top of the first. Steve Moyers went on to retire the Sycamores in order in second, third and fourth innings before a costly error led to ISU scoring four more in the top of the fifth.

After having runners in scoring position in both the first and third innings, the Rams (2-8) were finally able to capitalize in the bottom of the fifth when Chris Hess delivered a two-out, two-run double to drive in Matt O'Neil and Connor Foreman and make it a 5-2 game.

That was as close as URI would get however as Indiana State pushed it to 6-2 in the top of the sixth and tacked on two more in the top of the ninth for the 8-2 victory.

Inside the Box Score

  • Senior Steve Moyers finished with nine strikeouts - one shy of his career high - and issued just one walk over six innings. However, he was charged with the loss as he allowed six runs (four earned) on eight hits.
  • Moyers has now made 38 career starts for the Rams. In 19 of those games, the Rams have scored three or fewer runs.
  • Freshman Mark Silvestri faced the minimum over two innings of relief work. He is now tied for the team lead with four appearances out of the bullpen and is the only Ram with a 0.00 ERA still intact.
  • Offensively, Rhode Island managed just five hits on the afternoon while Indiana State cranked out 11.
  • Redshirt sophomore Chris Hess and senior Ryan Olmo both doubled in the loss. Hess also drove in both Rhody runs while Olmo recorded his second outfield assist of the season.
  • Sophomore Jordan Powell, senior Chase Livingston and redshirt junior Matt O'Neil also had base hits for the Rams. Livingston, senior Connor Foreman and junior Martin Figueroa all reached on walks.
  • O'Neil and Foreman scored the lone runs of the day for Rhode Island.

What's Next
The Rams return to Jim Perry Stadium tomorrow evening when they take on Campbell at 5 p.m.
