How it Happened
Campbell (7-8) got on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning on a solo home run by JD Andreessen. Rhody then pulled ahead in the top of the fourth as Martin Figueroa scored on a sac-fly by Jordan Powell after doubling to right center to plate Chris Hess.

The Camels reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fourth, pushing across three runs to go up 4-2, but Rhode Island charged back once again. With two away in the top of the fifth, Kevin Heiss scored on an RBI single by Hess before both Hess and Ryan Olmo crossed the plate on a two-out home run by Figueroa.

Rhody (3-8) tacked on another run in the top of the eighth when Sam Ilario - pinch running for Derek Gardella - scored from first on a double by Mike Foley.

The Camels clawed their way back in bottom of the ninth, plating two runs and advancing runners to second and third before a ground out ended the late threat with Rhody on top 7-6.

Inside the Box Score

  • Junior Martin Figueroa went 5-for-5 at the plate, tying the program record for hits in a game. With a home run, a double and three singles, he became the 15th player in program history - and the first since 2012 (Jeff Roy) - to record five hits in a single game.
  • Figueroa also drove in four runs, scored twice and swiped his second base of the season.
  • Senior Ryan Olmo also turned in a multi-hit performance, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and three putouts in left field.
  • Redshirt sophomore Chris Hess scored twice and drove in a run for the Rams.
  • Redshirt senior Derek Gardella reached twice, doubling in the sixth and drawing a walk in the eighth.
  • Redshirt freshman Sam Ilario pinch ran for Gardella in the eighth and scored from first - for what would prove to be the game-winning - on a double by sophomore Mike Foley.
  • In addition to the RBI double, Foley also reached once by way of walk and stole his third base of the season.
  • Sophomore Tyler Wilson earned the win, recording eight strikeouts over six complete innings. He allowed four runs on five hits to improve to 2-1 on the season.
  • Senior Brad Applin tossed a scoreless seventh and eighth before handing the ball to redshirt sophomore Tyler Barss in the bottom of the ninth.
  • Barss allowed two runs on three hits and a walk, but got a game-ending ground-out to pick up his second save of the season.
