How it Happened
Rhode Island (6-8) got the only offense it would need in the top of the second inning, plating nine runs off Towson starter Kevin Ross. Martin Figueroa and Mike Corin got things started with back-to-back singles to lead off the inning, before a double steal put both runners in scoring position. Figueroa then scored on a wild pitch and Corin crossed the plate on an RBI groundout by Mike Foley.
Jesse Lee made it 3-0 Rhody after reaching on a Towson error, stealing both second and third, and coming around to score on a base hit by Jordan Powell. The Powell single - coupled with walks to Kevin Heiss and Connor Foreman - loaded the bases for Chris Hess, who sent his first career grand slam out of the park for the 7-0 advantage.
Figueroa kept things rolling with a double to right field before Corin capped off the scoring with a sure-shot over left field wall to put the Rams on top 9-0.
The Tigers (3-15) came back with three in the bottom of the third, and added another in the ninth, but that was as close as they would get as Rhody clinched the series with the 9-4 win.
