How it Happened
Rhode Island (7-10, 1-0) never trailed in the game, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning and remaining on top throughout. Derek Gardella and Chris Hess got the scoring started as they both scored on a two-out single by Chase Livingston. Mike Corin then made it 3-0 Rhody in the top of the second when he crossed the plate on a squeeze play by Kevin Heiss.
George Mason (6-16, 0-1) cut it to 3-2 in the bottom of the third however, scoring on a wild pitch and an RBI groundout to make it a one-run game.
Tyler Wilson went on to record eight consecutive outs, and retired 14 of the next 17 batters leading into the top of the ninth. There, Jordan Powell was walked with two away, before stealing second and coming around to score when Garrett Driscoll's throw down rolled out into left center field.
Tyler Barss relieved Wilson in the bottom of the ninth and got a groundout and a pair of strikeouts to seal the 5-2 win.
