How it Happened
After three scoreless frames, Rhode Island (9-11) broke things open with a four-run fourth. Derek Gardella got things started with a single to the 5-6 hole and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Chris Hess. Martin Figueroa then beat out a ground ball to third, and Gardella crossed the plate on the errant throw to first by CCSU's third baseman. Chase Livingston then doubled down the left field line and was driven in on a single to center by Ryan Olmo. Mike Corin followed with an RBI triple that plated Olmo, before coming around to score on a base hit by Mike Foley.
URI starter Blaise Whitman continued his dominance on the hill, recording his fourth 1-2-3 inning in the top of the fifth before being relieved by Evan Flanagan in the top of the sixth. Flanagan tossed a scoreless sixth but allowed Central Connecticut (7-13) its lone run of the day in the top of the seventh.
With the Rams up 4-1 heading into the eighth inning, Connor Foreman took the mound the top of the eighth and got out of the inning without allowing a hit. Rhody went on to add an additional run in the bottom of the frame as Olmo doubled and stole third before being driven in on Foley's first career triple.
Foreman went back out for a scoreless ninth, earning the six-out save in his first-ever pitching appearance.
