How it Happened
Rhode Island starter Steve Moyers allowed just one run on five hits through his first five innings, but the Eagles finally got to him their third time through the order. With a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth, Winthrop strung together five singles to move ahead 4-0.

Rhode Island (1-6) cut the lead in half in the top of the seventh - on a two-run shot by Chris Hess - but Winthrop (6-4) pushed across three more in the bottom of the inning to lead 7-2 after seven complete.

Back-to-back Rhody errors in the eighth then allowed Winthrop to cross the plate once again before Martin Figueroa ripped a two-out, two-run homer in the top of the ninth. Jordan Powell followed with a single, but a Mike Corin strikeout ended the late comeback bid.
