Rhode Island sits in second place in the team standings after the first day of racing at the George Washington Invitational Friday afternoon.

The Rams earned 27 points Friday, putting Rhody behind only Navy, which has 36 points. Right behind Rhode Island is Georgetown (24), followed by Saint Joseph's (12), George Washington (9) and MIT (0). Friday marked the first of three racing sessions this weekend, as the teams will be back on the water Saturday morning and again Saturday afternoon.

The Rams were paired against host George Washington Friday. Rhody's top two boats were victorious in head-to-head races against its Atlantic 10 rival. The Varsity 8+ contingent of Alissa Margraf (cox), Lily Herberger, Dana Holland, Emmy Corace, Alicia Kelley, Marisa Landry, Kiana Anderson, Katie Shattuck and Leah McGlynn finished the Potomac River course in a time of 6:19.00, beating the George Washington boat by more than 12 seconds.

Also winning its race was the Second Varsity 8 team of Lucy Moyes (cox), Courtney Harrington, Laura Kilbane, Shannon McIsaac, Emily Engott, Sydney Beck, Kelsey Maymon, Meghan Ellis and Mekenzie Mattheson. Rhody finished in a time of 6:32.00, edging the Colonials by three seconds.

During the first session Saturday, Rhode Island's boats will go head-to-head with Georgetown. The Rams will take on A-10 opponent Saint Joseph's during the afternoon session tomorrow.
