Rhode Island's Varsity 8+ posted the fastest time of the day as the Rams swept their competition Saturday and finished second overall at the George Washington Invitational.

Navy, which finished the two-day event with 72 points, edged Rhody (63) for the Wilkens Bowl title. Well behind the top two teams were Georgetown (41), Saint Joseph's (31), George Washington (28) and MIT (17). Originally scheduled for two sessions of racing Saturday, the event was modified and condensed to one due to expected inclement conditions.

The Rams were pitted against Georgetown and Saint Joseph's for the Saturday races, while the other heats had Navy, MIT and George Washington. Rhode Island won all three of its heats.

Rhody's Varsity 8+ team of Alissa Margraf (cox), Lily Herberger, Dana Holland, Emmy Corace, Alicia Kelley, Marisa Landry, Kiana Anderson, Katie Shattuck and Leah McGlynn finished its race in 6:27.40. That was the fastest time of the day, beating Navy's time by more than five seconds. The performance completed a perfect 3-0 weekend for the V8+ boat.

The Second Varsity 8 boat went 4-0 on the weekend. The team of Carly Amurao (cox), Courtney Harrington, Laura Kilbane, Shannon McIsaac, Emily Engott, Sydney Beck, Kelsey Maymon, Meghan Ellis and Mekenzie Mattheson held off Saint Joseph's by four seconds to win its heat. Rhody's time of 6:54.60 was the second-best in the field behind only Navy's 6:49.60.

In the Varsity 4+ race, Rhode Island won a tight three-way race with a time of 7:44.30, beating Saint Joseph's by 5.1 seconds. Georgetown was just .6 seconds behind the Hawks in third place. With freshman Tory Bauer making her collegiate debut as the coxswain, the team of Danielle Wolf, Lauren Smith, Chandler Fisher and Sage Iacovazzi had the second fastest time of the day behind only Navy's 7:26.60. After losing to George Washington by 19 seconds on Friday, the Rams were 2.3 seconds faster than the Colonials Saturday.

Next Saturday Rhode Island heads to Boston to take on Boston University and Boston College.
