How it Happened
Connecticut (30-22) scored the only runs it would need in the top of the first, plating six runs as part of a two-out rally that was extended by a Rhode Island error.
Rhode Island (24-24) got on the board in the top of the third as Laurence Hill led off with a base hit through the left side and came around to score on a triple by Chris Hess. Martin Figueroa then singled to drive in Hess and make it a 6-2 game.
The Huskies added a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame and tacked on three more in their next trip to the plate to lead 11-2 after four complete.
Rhody scored twice more in the top of the sixth - on an error that allowed Connor Foreman to cross the plate and another RBI triple by Hess. However, UConn responded with three more runs in the bottom of the inning for the eventual 14-4 victory.
