Rams Open Competition at NCAA Championship

Complete Results - Day One

GOLD RIVER, Calif.
– Rhode Island's boats were consistent in two rounds of racing at the NCAA Championship Friday.

Racing at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center, Rhody's Varsity 8 boat of Alissa Margraf (cox), Lily Herberger, Dana Holland, Katie Shattuck, Alicia Kelley, Emily Engott, Kiana Anderson, Kelsey Maymon and placed fifth out of six teams in the fourth heat of racing. The Rams finished in a time of 6:55.667, coming in nearly eight seconds ahead of Navy. Earlier this season, Rhode Island and Navy both competed at the George Washington Invitational, which was won by Navy.

Friday evening, the Rams placed sixth out of seven teams in its Repechage Heat. This time, the Rams finished in a time of 6:56.229, ahead of Jacksonville.

In the Second Varsity 8 flight, Rhody's contingent of Carly Amurao (cox), Danielle Wolf, Eva Baker, Courtney Harrington, Mekenzie Mattheson, Shannon McIsaac, Laura Kilbane, Sydney Beck, and Meghan Ellis was fifth out of six boats in Heat 4, finishing ahead of Central Florida by 6.5 seconds. Rhode Island also was faster than Navy and Jacksonville in the early session. The Rams finished ahead of the same three teams in the Repechage heats later Friday.

Rhode Island's Varsity 4 team of Avery Cohen (cox), Lauren Smith, Allie Reilly, Sage Iacovazzi and Aoife O'Keeffe was fifth out of six teams in its morning heat, beating Central Florida. In the Repechage Heat later in the day, UCF beat the Rams by one second, but Rhody finished ahead of Jacksonville.

There will be one round of racing Saturday as teams fight for final seeding on Sunday. All three Rhode Island boats will be in the C/D Seminal 2 heats. The Varsity 8 boat will race against Duke, Washington State, Northeastern and Navy at 8:24 a.m.

The Second Varsity 8 boat goes at 9:12 a.m. against Indiana, Gonzaga, Northeastern and UCF. The Varsity 4 boat will go against Duke, USC, Navy and UCF.
