How it Happened
Rhode Island (3-5-0) jumped out to an early lead as Jennifer Mencos scored on a penalty kick just 14:11 into the game. The Rams doubled their advantage five minutes later when Mencos played a corner into the box and Albany's defense was unable to clear the service. Allyson Reynolds collected the loose ball and fired a shot into the back of the net to make it 2-0 Rhody.
The Great Danes (2-6-0) returned from the break and quickly cut URI's lead in half on a Sophia Eifler goal from the top of the box. Carolina Kopp was credited with an assist on the play. Albany continued to apply the pressure throughout the remainder of the game, but Julia Freeman stopped each of the next three shots she faced to secure the 2-1 victory.
