Robles, Villarreal Power Rams Past Youngstown State

Box Score

How It Happened
Erica Robles and Sami Villarreal each blasted three-run home runs and Sarah Gunderson delivered her best start of the season as Rhode Island knocked off Youngstown State 7-1 early Saturday morning to pick up its second victory at the Charleston Invitational.

With two out in the bottom of the third inning, Robles drilled a shot to right-center field to put the Rams (4-9) ahead, 3-0. Leah Krivitsky and Sami Villarreal had back-to-back singles to start the inning. After the next two batters were retired, Robles worked the count to 2-2 before lifting her second home run of the season.

Youngstown State (0-8) got a solo home run in the top of the fourth from Maddi Lusk, but that was all the scoring allowed by Gunderson (1-4). The offense provided more support in the bottom of the fourth when Villarreal launched a three-run homer of her own, making the score 6-1. The Rams capped the scoring with an RBI single by Faith Musselwhite in the sixth inning.
