23:38 – URI – Oystese

How it Happened
Rhode Island won at Dayton for the first time since 2006, picking up three key points in the Atlantic 10 standings with a 1-0 victory over the Flyers.

Isak Oystese gave the Rams the only offense they would need, scoring what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 24th minute. After a Dayton foul inside the Rams' 18-yard box, goalkeeper Stefan Schmidt booted the ball up into URI's attacking third, where it was headed away by UD's Elias Harryson. However, the clearance attempt went directly to Oystese, who played the ball from his chest to his right foot, and then lofted a one-timer over Dayton's Marc Kouadio for the early advantage.

Rhode Island got a strong effort from its defense, which limited Dayton to just one first-half shot and fought off a total of nine UD corners on the night. Schmidt needed to make just two second-half saves in order to preserve the clean sheet for the Rams.

Inside the Box Score
  • Freshman Isak Oystese's goal was his fifth of the season, and fourth game-winner.
  • Redshirt senior Stefan Schmidt stopped both shots he faced to pick up his second consecutive shutout victory, and 12th shutout of his career.
  • Rhode Island outshot Dayton 15-9 and held an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal.
  • The Flyers had nine corner kicks, compared to Rhody's three.
  • For URI, the win at Dayton's Baujan Field was the Rams' first since 2006, and just the fourth in program history.
  • The victory moves Rhode Island to 3-1-0 in the Atlantic 10. With nine points in the conference standings, the Rams are now in a four-way tie – with VCU, Fordham and Saint Joseph's – for second place.
