How it Happened
Dolly Cairns and
Dez Elmore combined for 36 points as Rhode Island knocked off in-state rival Providence 66-53 Wednesday night.
Cairns made five 3-pointers while scoring a a game-high 21 points. Elmore dominated in several areas, scoring 15 points to go with 17 rebounds and seven steals.
Rhode Island held the Friars to 0-of-9 from long range before Providence was able to connect on their first shot from deep in the fourth quarter. Four Rams scored in double figures en route to their fourth straight win.
Inside the Box Score
- Graduate student Dez Elmore recorded the double-double. Her 17 rebounds matched her career high, and the seven steals were a new career best.
- Sophomore Dolly Cairns shot 8-of-14 from the floor, including 5-for-8 from the arc.
- Graduate student Marta Vargas provided an efficient effort. She scored 11 points on 3-for-5 shooting, all of which came from the perimeter.
- Redshirt junior Marie-Paule Foppossi was the fourth Ram in double figures, scoring 11 points to go with four rebounds.
- Rhode Island's defense held Providence to just 2-of-14 from 3-point range.
