How it Happened
It was over early, as Old Dominion put 12 runs up in the bottom of the second en route to an easy 16-3 win over Rhode Island Sunday.
URI (2-4) had taken the first two games of the series, but Sunday belonged to the Monarchs. In the home half of the second, two singles and a hit batsman loaded the bases with no outs. Gagliardi emptied the bases with a grand slam, giving ODU (5-2) a 4-0 lead. Eight more runs came across the plate in the inning, as eight hits, three hit batters and three walks contributed to the rally.
By the time Rhode Island scored three runs in the top of the eight, the outcome was well in hand.
