How it Happened

Faith Hutchins, but it went off the left post and was cleared away from danger.
URI nearly got its first goal of the season in the 14th minute.
Sam Hagerty drilled a bullet from deep that had everyone beat. The shot appeared headed for the upper right corner, but it hit the right post and bounced away. Rhody got another solid shot in the 28th minute off the foot of
Tali O'Leary, but UMass keeper Alyssa Chase smothered the ball for the save.
Rhode Island had an excellent chance in the opening minutes of the second half. A turnover at midfield in the 51st minute created a chance for the Rams as
Francesca D'Agostino took a pass with room to spare. She caught Chase out of position, but the low shot went wide to the left.
Massachusetts managed one final chance in the closing moments. Ella Curry put a left-footed touch on net in 109th minute, but there was not much pace on the ball, and Hutchins handled the shot and preserved the tie for the Rams.
