How It Happened
Rhode Island got its first victory of the season in dramatic, walk-off fashion, as
Ari Castillo drove in
Caileigh Holland with the winning run, lifting the Rams to a 4-3 decision over Holy Cross Friday.
Rhody (1-2) trailed 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth when
Skyler Rapuano delivered a one-out triple to center field that drove in
Sami Villarreal with the tying run.
Erica Robles put the Rams ahead 3-2 with a double to right field that brought Rapuano home.
Holy Cross (0-1) managed to tie the score in the top of the seventh with a single by Kari Jacobson followed by a double from Erin Bengston. With nobody out and the potential go-ahead run on second,
CeCe Sidley entered the game for Rhode Island. She got an infield pop out, a ground out and a strikeout to end the threat.
In the bottom of the seventh, Holland drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second when Rapuano reached on an infield single. Castillo drove a single up the middle to bring Holland around to score the winning run.

- Sophomore Piper Maguire gave Rhode Island its strongest start in the circle this season, going six-plus innings. She allowed three runs on eight hits while striking out four.
- Sophomore CeCe Sidley (1-0) earned the victory with a scoreless inning of relief. She retired all three batters she faced.
- Sophomore Skyler Rapuano had a triple, single, run batted in and one run scored.
