How it Happened
Rhode Island picked up its first win of the season in dramatic fashion, thanks to a game-winning goal from Brooke Cavino in overtime to beat Boston College 3-2 on the road.Â
The Eagles struck first in the opening 22 minutes of play. A corner kick by Laura Gouvin set up a shot by Michela Agresti, who found the back of the net off a deflection. The Rams had four shots on goal in the first half of action, including a shot by Tali O'Leary that was stopped by Mackenzie Egan. Rhody had seven shots to BC's two before the break.Â
The Rams continued the pressure offense in the second half, and Laila Rosenthal notched her first goal of the season to tie it at 1-1 in the 71st minute. Rosenthal had a clear shot through traffic to find the back of the net for the Rams' second goal this year. Boston College answered with a goal from Nye Day with five minutes remaining. With 1:21 left to play of regulation, Haley Pignatelli connected on a shot to tie it at 2-2. Pignatelli was able to sneak the shot in to the lower post and send the teams into extra time.Â
In the opening two minutes of the overtime period, Brooke Cavino scored the go-ahead goal off an assist from Haley Pignatelli, sending the Rams home with their first win in the all-time series against BC.
