How It Happened
Rhode Island (3-16, 0-6 Atlantic 10) came up short in a pair of losses at Saint Joseph's Saturday. After getting shut out 8-0 in the opener, the Rams produced four runs in the second game, but it wasn't enough. Saint Joseph's exploded late in the second game for a 12-4 victory.

Game 1 – Saint Joseph's 8, Rhode Island 0 (6 inn.)
A three-run home run by Caela Abadie gave Saint Joseph's a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first, and the Hawks never let up from there. Saint Joseph's added two in the second inning, and then single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth to invoke the mercy rule.
Saige Stutz (4-5) allowed just two singles and one walk en route to the complete-game shutout. Stutz allowed just one runner into scoring position, which came with two outs in the top of the sixth.

Game 2 – Saint Joseph's 12, Rhode Island 4
Rhode Island built an early 3-0 but could not make it stand. Saint Joseph's scored 10 runs over the final three innings to rally for the 12-4 win.
In the bottom of the first,
Skyler Rapuano led off with a double and moved to third on a groundout.
Ari Castillo sinlged her in and then later scored on a double by
Vicki Viaclovsky.The Rams added a run in the second inning when Rapuano's RBI single drove in
Cassie Swenson.
The Rams still 3-2 after four innings, but Saint Joseph's exploded for five runs in the fifth inning. Five more runs in the seventh inning provided plenty of cushion down the stretch. Rhody managed one run in the fifth, but despite having 11 hits in the game, the Rams could not get more runs across the plate.
