DeSousa Delivers Clutch to Lift Rams to Victory

How It Happened
Senior Hannah DeSousa delivered a two-out, two-run triple in the top of the sixth inning to lead Rhode Island to a 7-6 come-from-behind victory at Boston College Wednesday. The victory was URI's first in 27 years over BC, snapping a 17-game losing streak in the series.

Rhode Island (3-12) got on the board first with a single run in the top of the first. Skyler Rapuano reached on an infield single, and Abby Fenbert moved her to third with a double to the gap in right center. With one out, Erica Robles singled through the right side to drive on Rapuano.

The Rams padded the lead with runs in the top of the third, capitalizing on several walks. Ari Castillo walked to start the inning, and Robles reached on an error. Hannah DeSousa singled to load the bases with one out. Susan Harrison walked to force in pinch runner Caitlin O'Leary, and Caileigh Holland followed with a walk of her own to bring in Robles. Margaux Lesser drew the third straight bases-loaded walk to force DeSousa in and put URI ahead, 4-0.

Boston College (6-19) struck for six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. This time, it was the Eagles taking advantage of wild pitching, as the rally consisted of three hits, five walks and one hit batsman.

The Rams came alive with a two-out rally in the top of the sixth. After two ground outs to start the frame, Castillo singled and Robles walked. Alex Pleasic reached on a fielding error at second base, which allowed Castillo to come around and score. DeSousa tripled to right field, driving in Pleasic and pinch runner Gabi Lopez to put the Rams back in front.

Relief pitcher Taryn Collins (1-0) pitched 3.0 scoreless innings to earn the win. She retired the last six batters in order to secure the victory.
