How It Happened
Massachusetts rallied from a four-run deficit to get a walk-off win over Rhode Island, beating the Rams 9-8 Friday afternoon.
Rhode Island (4-20, 1-10 Atlantic 10) led 8-4 after five innings, but the Minutewomen (14-12, 10-7 A-10) scored three times in the fifth inning and once in the sixth to tie the game.
In the bottom of the seventh, Bella Pantoja reached on a single up the middle with one out. Kristina Day drew a walk to advance her to second. Kendra Allen was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
After a pitching change, the game ended on a ground ball to second base. Rhode Island tried to turn a double play, but Amy Smith beat the throw to first base, allowing Pantoja to score the winning run on the fielder's choice.
