How it Happened
An early barrage gave Rhode Island the lead just minutes into the match, and the Rams never let up en route to a 2-0 victory over Central Connecticut State Monday night.
Rhode Island came out aggressive and scored in the seventh minute when
Rafa Villanueva scored his first career goal. After an initial shot by
Cian Purcell was blocked, Villanueva was there to knock it home for the quick goal. His score came on URI's fifth shot of the opening minutes, capping an early flurry of activity.
Rhody nearly added to the lead in the waning minutes of the first half when
Igor Manrique fired a bullet on net. CCSU keeper Jason Dubrovich made the stop to keep it a one-goal game heading into the break.
After consistently pressuring the CCSU net, the Rams broke through with an insurance goal from
Patrick Agyemang in the 77th minute. The striker headed home a free kick through the box from Purcell, who collected his second assist of the match.
With the Rhody defense limiting the visiting Blue Devils to two shots on goal, the Rams secured the victory in confident fashion.
