How it Happened
Rhode Island snapped a 14-game losing streak to Connecticut, traveling to Storrs and knocking off the Huskies 1-0 Friday night. Rhody's last win over UConn was a 3-2 quadruple overtime victory in 1979.

The Rams struck early, taking a 1-0 lead on Isak Oystese's first career goal. The play developed with UConn's Thomas Decottignies picking up a yellow card for tackling Oystese from behind just outside the 18-yard box. Ivan Montoro took the ensuing free kick, and served the ball into the box where he found a streaking Oystese for the early advantage.

UConn nearly equalized in the 19th minute when Wade Moussa drilled a shot off the crossbar. Bjorn Nikolajewski then fired the rebound on goal but Vetle Nilsen was there to clear the shot and keep the Rams' on top.

The Huskies continued to apply pressure throughout the second half, but Rhody's Stefan Schmidt stopped each of the four shots he faced to preserve the shutout victory.
