RHODE ISLAND VS. BROWN - SERIES NOTES

  • Saturday's game will be the 105th meeting all time between URI and Brown. Brown leads, 73-29-2.
  • It is the 39th contest since the Governor's Cup began in 1981, with both sides winning 19 times.
  • Rhode Island has won two straight and three of the last four in the series.
  • In the last meeting - a 31-28 URI win - Vito Priore hit Aaron Parker for a 14-yard touchdown pass with 8:20 remaining to lift the Rams to the come-from-behind victory.
  • Wide receiver Isaiah Coulter had 12 catches for 122 yards and a touchdown in the win.
  • There was no game last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The Rams are looking to win three straight over Brown for the first time since 2006-08.
  • The game is Brown's first since a 29-23 loss to Dartmouth on Nov. 23, 2019, a span of 665 days.

RAMS TAKE AIM AT 3-0 START

  • Rhody is looking to start 3-0 for the first time since 2005.
  • It would be just the eighth time in program history the Rams opened the season with three straight victories.
  • The other years were 2005, 2001, 1995, 1990, 1967, 1957 and 1898.
  • Rhode Island's best start in a season came in 2001, when it started out 7-0.
  • The only other times Rhode Island won more than three straight to begin the year were 1957 (5-0) and 1898 (5-0).

LINEMEN KEEPING THE POCKET CLEAN

  • Through two games, Rhode Island's offensive line has yet to allow a sack in 53 pass attempts.
  • The Rams are one of just six FCS schools that have not given up a sack this year. The others are Arkansas Pine-Bluff, Dayton, Lamar, Robert Morris and South Dakota State.
  • The primary protectors in the trenches for URI are left tackle Lorenzo Thompson, left guard Evan Lovell, center Sebastian Delasoudas, right guard Nick Correia and right tackle Ajani Cornelius. Reserve Jordan Riendeau has appeared in both games for multiple series at right tackle as well.
  • In addition to protecting the quarterback, the offensive line has paved the way for Rhode Island to average 188.0 rushing yards per game, which ranks fifth in CAA Football.

RAMS RAMP UP THE PRESSURE

  • A scoring change gave Rhode Island six sacks last week at UAlbany, with freshman defensive tackle Westley Neal, Jr. getting credit for a second sack.
  • Through two games, the Rams have eight sacks, which is tied for the seventh most in the country.
  • Neal had five TFLs at UAlbany, tying him for the third most in a game in program history.
  • URI has 12 tackles for loss in two games.

RHODY DEFENSE IS BEING VERY STINGY

  • Rhode Island is allowing just 238.5 total yards of offense per game, which ranks 10th in the country.
  • The Rams are 13th nationally against the run, allowing just 82.0 yards per game.
  • Rhode Island also has a top 25 pass defense, giving up just 156.5 yards per game through the air, which ranks 24th nationally.
  • That combination has led to Rhode Island allowing just 17.5 points per game, which is the 27th lowest average in the country.
