How it Happened
Davidson got the scoring started just 4:30 into the game when Jack Wilson tucked a shot inside the far post for the early advantage. The lead was short-lived however as Rhody equalized just 44 seconds later. Hugo Guerra took the ball into the box and centered a pass to the front of the goal where a quick redirect by Ivan Montoro got past Davidson's Giacomo Piccardo and evened the game at 1-1.

The Wildcats pulled back ahead just before the break when Connor Smith fired a shot through the Rams' defense and into the back right corner for the 2-1 lead.

Rhode Island battled for another equalizer throughout the second half, and had perhaps its best chances within the final three minutes. Cian Purcell first served a free kick into the box where Rafa Villanueva's header was punched over the crossbar by a leaping Piccardo. On the free kick that followed, Montoro drilled a shot on goal from inside the 6-yard box, but Piccardo came up with another big save that effectively sealed the victory for the Wildcats.

Inside the Box Score
  • Sophomore Ivan Montoro's goal was his first of the season.
  • Senior Hugo Guerra's assist was his fifth point of the week as he also scored a pair of goals Tuesday at UAlbany.
  • Davidson outshot Rhode Island 14-12 and held a slight edge in shots on goal at 6-5.
  • Both teams attempted three corner kicks.
  • Redshirt senior Stefan Schmidt made four saves for the Rams. Giacomo Piccardo also had four saves for the Wildcats.
