After a
Brynne Wright kill tied the set 9-9, VCU scored the next three points, two of which came on URI attack errors. VCU maintained at least a two-point lead the rest of the way, getting its advantage to as many as five points at 23-18. A kill from Qairo Bentley and Rhode Island's sixth attack error of the set put VCU up 1-0.

Set Two – VCU 25, Rhode Island 17
VCU methodically built its lead in the second set, taking 12 of the first 17 points. Rhody was never able to get closer than four points, as the hosts comfortably took a 2-0 lead.

Set Three – VCU 25, Rhode Island 20
After VCU took a 9-5 lead on a Kylie Loftus kill, URI chipped away.
Brynne Wright had two kills in a span of three points to help Rhody close within 13-12. However, VCU scored seven of the next points to establish a 20-13 lead, enabling the hosts to coast to the sweep.
