How it Happened
No. 6/10 Saint Louis handled the visiting Rams using a dominant offense Thursday night, shutting out Rhody 6-0.
The Billikens scored four of their goals in the first half of play, starting with a shot in the ninth minute from Abbie Miller. A Caroline Kelly touch set up a cross for Hannah Larson that was poked through by Miller to get SLU on the board.Â
Emily Groark doubled the Billiken lead with a shot to the top right of the goal after beating the Rhody defender in the box. The assist was credited to Anna Lawler for the 2-0 score in the 20th minute.Â
Saint Louis scored again 13 minutes later, after a blast by Anna Walsh from Hannah Sawyer found the back of the net past Rhody keeper Faith Hutchins. The Billikens capped their convincing first half when Sawyer scored a goal of her own after cutting past Hutchins for the goal.Â
SLU's Lyndsey Heckel was the fifth Billken to net a goal on the night, doing so just over a minute into the second half of play. Heckel had a header off a corner kick by Hannah Friedrich to make the score 5-0.
The Billikens final goal came off a corner kick again, this time off the foot of Karsen Kohl with the assist to Walsh.Â
The Rhody offense came alive in the final 25 minutes of play. The Rams had three corner kicks in the remaining 22 minutes, but was unable to get anything past keeper Becca Wolterman. Wolterman made all three of her saves in the remaining 13 minutes of the game to preserve the shutout and send the Rams home with the loss.
