How it Happened
Rhode Island kept its slim postseason hopes alive by shutting out George Mason 1-0 Sunday afternoon.
The Rams picked up their second win in three matches, Rhode Island got on the board early in the second half when
Tierra Garniss drilled a shot into the upper right corner. A poor clearance by George Mason's defense was settled by
Tess O'Connell, who gave a touch pass to Garniss to set up a left-footed rocket from just outside the box. The shot beat the dive of Patriots' keeper Selamawit Caldart.
It was all the offense needed as the visiting Patriots rarely applied much pressure on the Rhody net. URI's defense allowed just three total shots while posting the shutout.
