Set One – Loyola 25, Rhode Island 22
Loyola came out hot, opening the set on a 10-3 run and never relinquishing the lead. A late 6-1 run by the Rams – which featured kills by freshmen
Karlee Pinell (2) and
Lauren Nelson (1) – got Rhody within one at 23-22. However Emily Banitt responded with back-to-back kills for Loyola, allowing the visitors to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Set Two – Loyola 25, Rhode Island 19
Rhode Island jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second set, and led 13-12 midway through. Loyola charged back with a 7-0 run however, scoring six points off kills and the other off an ace, to take over the lead for good at 19-13. A service ace by
Samantha Blahut cut Rhody's deficit to four at 22-18, but the Ramblers outscored the Rams 3-1 down the stretch.
Set Three – Loyola 25, Rhode Island 20
The third set was tight early on. Trailing by four (12-8), three consecutive Rhode Island kills put the Rams right back in it at 12-11. Loyola claimed the next three points though to stretch its lead to 15-11. Consecutive aces by Blahut – followed by a Ramblers attack error – later trimmed Loyola's lead to three (22-19), but once again the visitors claimed three of the final four points to sweep Rhode Island for the second day in a row.
