How it Happened
Rhode Island won on Senior Day to give its postseason hopes a boost, knocking off St. Bonaventure 2-1 Sunday afternoon.
The Rams scored first in the 19th minute when
Emma Derry sent a long pass down the middle of the pitch.
Cristina Sallent and St. Bonaventure keeper Chiara Gottinger raced to the ball from opposite directions, and Sallent was able to flick a shot past Gottinger for the goal.
The Bonnies got an equalizer in the 29th minute off of a set piece. Kenzie Tarmino sent a lofted pass over the box that was settled and crossed over to Ami Komori in front of the net. Komori's shot was stopped by
Carly Travers, but Bridget Kennedy slipped the rebound in for her second goal of the season.
Brooke Cavino got Rhody back in front with her fourth goal of the season. With the ball just outside the box, Cavino sent a left-footed shot through the defense. The soft floater managed to slip under a diving Gottinger in the lower right corner for a 2-1 lead. The goal proved to be the game-winner, as URI held the Bonnies at bay the rest of the way.
