Rhody Falls to Colgate in Runnin' Bulldog Finale

How It Happened
Colgate (4-1) scored five runs over the final two innings to break open a tight contest and hand Rhode Island a 7-1 loss on the final day of the Runnin' Bulldog Classic in Boiling Springs, N.C. Sunday.

Rhody (2-3) managed its lone run in the bottom of the third inning. Trailing 1-0, Skyler Rapuano drew a two-out walk and advanced when Cassie Swenson reached on an error. Victoria Viaclovsky delivered a single to drive in Rapuano and tie the score.

Colgate retook the lead in the top of the fourth. A two-out double by Steph Jacoby drove in pinch runner Claire Whalen to make the score 2-1.

URI managed just one hit over the final four innings, unable to get to Colgate starter Bailey Miskan, who pitched a complete-game five hitter to record the win.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • All five of Rhode Island's hits were singles.
  • Ari Castillo, Cassie Swenson, Vicki Viaclovsky, Sami Villarreal and Rachel Zingerman all had one hit.
  • Skyler Rapuano walked and scored the team's lone run.
  • For the first time this season, the Rams did not steal a base. Rhody is now 8-for-10 on stolen base attempts.
  • Despite the loss, the Rams did not commit an error. Through five games in the tournament, Rhody had a sparkling .993 fielding percentage, making just one miscue in 153 chances.
What's Next
Rhode Island is off for 12 days before it heads to Deland, Fla. for the Hatter Classic from Feb. 25-27. The Rams will play five games there, facing Marist and Stetson twice each, and Harvard one time.
