Box Score 2 How It Happened
Rhode Island dropped its first two games at the Hatter Classic Friday, falling to Marist and Harvard by matching scores of 11-5.
Game 1 – Marist 11, Rhode Island 5
Marist (2-4) got a two-out, first-inning grand slam from Meghan Davis to jump in front early. The Red Foxes added one in the second inning and three more in the bottom of the fifth to stretch the lead to 8-1.
Rhode Island made a dent in the top of the sixth inning, scoring four times to hack into the deficit.
Skyler Rapuano led off with a walk, and
Susan Harrison followed with a single up the middle. A fielder's choice resulted in Rapuano being retired at third.
Rachel Zingerman followed with a single to right field that drove in pinch runner
Ainsley Yoshizumi from second.
Leilyn Alvarez drilled a three-run shot to left center to get URI within three runs.
Unfortunately, Marist came right back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth when Caroline Baratta delivered a two-out, three-run double to push the lead back to six runs and seal the win.
Game 2 – Harvard 11, Rhode Island 5
The game file was unavailable due to an inputting error for the host institution that will be corrected later in the weekend. The game was tied 5-5 after six innings, but Harvard scored six times in the top of the seventh to get the victory.
