Rams Host Mason For Final Weekend of Season

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island finishes out its season with three home games against George Mason this weekend, including a doubleheader Saturday at 12 p.m. The team will hold its Senior Day ceremony between games on Saturday. All three games are scheduled to stream on ESPN+.

RHODE ISLAND VS. GEORGE MASON - SERIES NOTESĀ 

  • George Mason leads the all-time series, 22-11
  • The last 11 games in the series have all been decided by four runs or less, including five one-run games and three more that were decided by two runs.
  • George Mason leads the Atlantic 10 with a .972 fielding percentage.
  • George Mason senior Tess Altevers Harris is second in the conference with nine home runs. She also has bee hit by a pitch 10 times, the most of any player in the league.
  • Pitcher Abbey Lane has 11 victories for the Patriots, which is tied for second in the Atlantic 10.
  • The Patriots are aggressive on the bases, leading the A-10 with 84 steals in 105 attempts.
  • George Mason's Alyssa Hopkins is the current A-10 Rookie of the Week after batting .667 (10-for-15) with two doubles and a home run in five games last week.Ā 

SEVEN SENIORS TO BE HONORED

  • Saturday will be Senior Day for Rhode Island, with seven seniors being honored between games of the doubleheader.
  • Catcher Kylie Bulinski, pitchers Ashley Hibbard and Lauren Wasikowski, infielders Casey Miller and Becca Zawistowski and outfielders Mandi Hanewich and Hannah Hernandez all will be recognized.
  • All seven have been with the team for their entire four-year careers.
  • Bulinski (185), Hernandez (173), Miller (159), Zawistowski (147) and Hanewich (109) have combined to play more than 770 games for the Rams in their careers.
  • Hibbard has made 90 career pitching appearances, including 50 career starts. With one more appearance this weekend, she would crack the program's all-time top 10.
  • Over the last four seasons, the group has been a part of 69 victories, including URI's lone postseason victory over the last 25 years.
  • In the six seasons combined prior to this year's seniors arriving, Rhode Island won 60 games.
  • The last senior class with more career wins was the class of 2004, which won 84 games from 2001-04.Ā 
  • As freshmen in 2023, all were part of the team that won 23 games and reached the Atlantic 10 Championship, the program's lone postseason appearance since 2001.Ā 
  • This year's senior class is trying for its second 20-win season in four years.
  • The last Rhode Island senior class to record two 20-win seasons was the class of 2006. That class won 21 games as freshmen in 2003 and then 20 games in their final season.Ā 

SERIES HAS POSTSEASON IMPLICATIONS FOR GEORGE MASON

  • Rhode Island has been eliminated from postseason contention, but the series is significant for George Mason.Ā 
  • The Patriots are one of four teams fighting for the final two postseason spots in the Atlantic 10 Championship.
  • Dayton (11-10) and Fordham (11-10) are tied for fourth place, while George Washington (10-11) and George Mason (10-11) are one game behind, tied for sixth place.Ā 
  • George Washington holds the head-to-head tiebreaker with George Mason.
  • Loyola Chicago (17-4) has clinched the regular-season title and the top overall seed.Ā 
  • Saint Joseph's (12-9) and Saint Louis (13-10) are in second and third place, but neither has secured their seeding yet.
  • The top six teams in the final standings qualify for the Atlantic 10 Championship, which is being held in Saint Louis this year.
