How it Happened
Central Connecticut took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, but was unable to further capitalize on the 10 walks issued by the Rhody pitching staff over the first six innings. During that span, the Blue Devils stranded 12 baserunners – including leaving the bases loaded three times.
Â
CCSU tacked on another run in the top of the seventh for the 2-0 advantage.
Â
Offense came at a premium for the Rams, who managed just two singles – both off the bat of
Justin Cherry – through the first seven frames. Rhody finally got on the board in the bottom of the eighth, thanks to back-to-back, two-out doubles by
Eric Genther and
Jack Cucinotta. However, Central Connecticut got the run back in the top of the ninth for the 3-1 win.
