How it Happened
Ranked as high as 18th nationally, UConn proved every bit worthy of the ranking in a 19-2 thumping of the Rams Friday afternoon. The Huskies' Austin Peterson (11) and Braden Quinn (3) combined for 14 strikeouts with just one walk while allowing Rhody just six runs over nine innings.
 
Connecticut scored three runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back. A solo home run by Joe Fortin the following inning made it a 3-1 game, but UConn pushed across 16 unanswered runs before an Alex Ramirez single plated Calvin McCall in the top of the ninth.

• Freshman Anthony DePino extended his reached-base streak to 10 games, thanks to a sixth-inning single.
• Junior Calvin McCall singled and scored a run.

• Freshman Ryan Andrade took the loss, allowing six runs over a 2.0-inning start. He only allowed three hits, but struggled with command as part of a five-walk, one-hit batter outing.
