RHODE ISLAND VS. SAINT JOSEPH'S - SERIES NOTES
- Saturday's game will be the 108th meeting between Rhode Island and Saint Joseph's, and the second meeting this year.
- The Hawks lead the all-time series, 57-50, including a 31-20 edge in Philadelphia.
- Earlier this season, Rhode Island beat Saint Joseph's 75-64 on Jan. 12.
- It was Rhody's first Atlantic 10 victory of the year.
- In the first meeting, Makhel Mitchell (15 points), Jeremy Sheppard (13 points) and Makhi Mitchell (12 points) combined for 40 of URI's 75 points. Malik Martin added nine points and 12 rebounds off the bench.
- Rhode Island has won six straight games in the series, and three in a row at Hagan Arena.
- URI head coach David Cox has not lost to a Philadelphia-based school. He is 5-0 against both Saint Joseph's and La Salle.
- Saint Joseph's averages 26.6 3-point shot attempts per game, while Rhode Island tries 15.4 per game.
RAMS WILL BE EITHER THE 10TH OR 11TH SEED FOR ATLANTIC 10 CHAMPIONSHIP
- Saturday's action will determine Rhode Island's seed for the upcoming Atlantic 10 Championship.
- The Rams will either be the 10th seed and play in the 7/10 game at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 10 or they will be the 11th seed and play on the first day of the tournament in the 11/14 game at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9.
- Rhode Island is currently in 11th place in the Atlantic 10 standings.
- If URI wins at Saint Joseph's and Massachusetts loses at George Mason, Rhode Island move up and claim the 10th seed.
- The Rams will stay in the 11th seed slot if Rhode Island loses to the Hawks or UMass defeats George Mason.
- Massachusetts and George Mason play at 4 p.m. on Saturday. If Rhode Island wins at Saint Joseph's, the Rams will not know their seeding until Saturday evening.
- Regardless of Saturday's outcomes, Saint Joseph's will play against La Salle in the 12/13 game, which is the opening game of the tournament. Tip time for that contest is 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9.
- The first-day games for the Atlantic 10 Championship will stream on ESPN+. All second- and third-round contests will air on the USA Network.
MAKHI MITCHELL SETS CAREER HIGH WITH SIX BLOCKS
- Forward Makhi Mitchell had a career-high six blocks in Wednesday's game against Saint Louis.
- It was the third time this season a Rhode Island player had at least six in a game this season. His brother Makhel Mitchell had eight against Boston College on Nov. 17 and six against George Washington on Jan. 22.
- Makhi Mitchell is ninth in the Atlantic 10 with 1.46 blocks per game.
