BOSTON, Mass. – Rhode Island heads to Cambridge, Mass. Saturday to take on Northeastern and Boston University as part of the Charles River Racing Series.

Races began with a rolling start due to windy conditions on the Charles River.

In the Varsity 8+ race, Boston University and Northeastern got off quickly with aggressive starts, and Rhode Island was unable to maintain pace. The two lead boats had open water over the Rams by the 500 meter mark, and URI was unable to make up ground. BU won the race in a time of 7:26.6, while Northeastern posted a time of 7:32.7. Rhode Island finished in 7:55.2.

Boston University dominated the Second Varsity 8+ race. The Terriers won by more than 23 seconds, posting a time of 7:36.8. Northeastern was second in 8:00.8 and Rhode Island had a time of 8:18.5. Rhody hung close with Northeastern early on in the race, but fell back by the third 500.

The Varsity 4A+ race was a 1,500-meter course. All three boats got out quickly despite racing in 19 mile-an-hour winds. As with the two V8 races, Boston University began to create distance by the 500 meter mark and held a clear advantage throughout the remainder of the race, winning in 6:48.1. Northeastern (7:09.3) and Rhode Island stayed (7:20.4) close with each other.

Rhode Island's best finish came in the Varsity 4B race, where the team of coxswain Sawyer McNish, Hannah Bachert, Tessa LeMay, Ella Godsey and Sarah Pecoraro placed second. Boston University won the race in a time of 6:48.1, while the Rams were next in 7:18.7. Rhody held off Northeastern by 13.1 seconds.

Rhode Island has two more events on its schedule before the Atlantic 10 Championship. On Saturday, April 23 the Rams take on Holy Cross, MIT and Sacred Heart, and then they close out the regular season at the Eastern Sprints on Sunday, May 1. Both of those events take place in Worcester, Mass. On Lake Quinsigamond.
