How it Happened
Dayton struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but a three-run homer by Justin Cherry put Rhody ahead 3-1 in the top of the second. UD cut it to 3-2 in the bottom of the second however, using a solo shot by Jay Curtis to make it a one-run game.

The Flyers went up 5-2 in the bottom of the third, but Rhody reclaimed the lead in the top of the fourth. There, Jordan Laske doubled to lead off the inning and then crossed the plate on a Dayton fielding error that allowed Joe Fortin to reach first. After a one-out single by Cherry, Tino Salgado drew a walk to load the bases. Fortin then scored on a wild pitch to tie the score at five apiece and Alex Ramirez followed with sac-fly that pushed across Cherry for the 6-5 lead.

Dayton pulled ahead 8-6 in the bottom of the fifth – this time on the strength of a three-run shot by Curtis – but Rhode Island clawed its way back once again. In the top of the sixth, Eric Genther singled to center with two away, driving in both Cherry and Jack Cucinotta to tie the score at 8-8.

The Flyers put two runners on base in the sixth, and another in the seventh, but were unable to add any runs.

Rhody finally pulled ahead in the top of the eighth, where execution was key. Addison Kopack got things started with a leadoff walk, before advancing to third on a hit-and-run single by Genther. Laske then dropped a perfectly placed bunt, sacrificing himself to drive in Kopack for what proved to be the game-winning run.

Zach Fernandez finished things off by retiring the Flyers in order in both the eighth and the ninth, leading Rhody to its first Atlantic 10 win of the season.
