WORCESTER, Mass. – Rhode Island had a strong day, sweeping its four races against MIT, Sacred Heart and Holy Cross on Lake Quinsigamond Saturday morning.

The Varsity 4+ crew got the Rams off to a quality start with its dominant victory. The team of coxswain Caitlyn Muteru, Olivia Kowalski, Sammie Gorrecki, Josie Grady and Tessa LeMay beat the field by more than 30 seconds. It was the widest margin of victory in any of the races. URI finished in 7:49.040, 31.671 seconds ahead of second-place MIT.

Next up was the Second Varsity 8+ race, which was the most competitive event of the series. The team of coxswain Alison Gorrarian, Morgan Cody, Tinsley Copeland, Alexis Moore, Elizabeth Greason, Kat Gillies, Emily Olin, Sam Gumprecht and Emory Caswell posted a time of 7:08.500. The Rams held off MIT by 2.604 seconds, as the top two teams both finished well ahead of Sacred Heart and Holy Cross.

Rhode Island had a slightly wider margin of victory in the Varsity 8+ flight. Coxswain Ellie McGee, Catie Castle, Jennae Alexander, Kathy Zeglen, Nicole Jones, Emily Drappeau, Hailey Pardi, Julia Fortin and Anna Sampson finished in 6:51.410. MIT (6:56.674) was second, followed by Sacred Heart (7:09.774) and Holy Cross (7:18.626).

In the final race of the day, Rhode Island had two boats in the Second Varsity 4+ race. The team of coxswain Sawyer McNish, Jessica Tosi, Lauren Thomas, Sarah Pecoraro and Hannah Bachert won with a time of 7:57.410. MIT was 14.796 in second place, followed by URI's team of coxswain Olivia Dumeer, Isabella Caldwell, Ella Godsey, Kaitlyn Kutz and Katie Pelletier with a time of 8:18.178. Sacred Heart was fourth, more than 36 seconds behind the first three boats.

Rhode Island returns to Worcester next week when it closes out the regular season at the Eastern Sprints Sunday, May 1.
