KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island's programmatic depth was on display at the Overpeck Invitational Saturday, as three of URI's four boats won their respective flights in the six-team field.
The Rams won the Second Varsity 8+, Varsity 4+ and Third Varsity 8+ flights. URI also took second place in the Varsity 8+ flight, as Rhody proved to be the most balanced program in the competition.

Anna Sampson had the second fastest times in both the opening heats and the finals. Grouped twice with the top boat from Massachusetts, Rhode Island was competitive with the Minutewomen in what could be a preview of the top boats at the Atlantic 10 Championship.
In the opening heats, UMass edged the Rams by 3.303 seconds. The finals had a similar result, as Massachusetts won in a time of 6:59.201, compared to Rhody's 7:03.193. George Washington was the third-place boat in a time of 7:04.772.
Rhode Island dominated the Second Varsity 8+ flight. Coxswain Alison Gorrarian, Josie Grady,

Sam Gumprecht, and
Emory Caswell posted a time of 7:12.721 in the finals. That was more than 10 seconds ahead of second-place George Washington (7:22.885) and third-place Saint Joseph's (7:28.055).

Rhode Island is back in action next weekend when it travels to Boston to race against Boston University and Northeastern on Saturday, April 16. Racing is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
