SARASOTA, Fla. – Each of Rhode Island's three boats finished according to seed in their respective flights during the opening heats of the 2022 NCAA Women's Rowing Championship Friday morning.

In the Repechage Round, the top two boats in each heat advanced to Saturday's A/B semifinals. The remaining boats were placed in the lower semifinal rounds.
 
In the second session of the day, Rhode Island's Varsity 8+ boat improved its time by more than 21 seconds from its time in the morning session. The team of coxswain Ellie McGee, stroke Anna Sampson, Julia Fortin, Hailey Pardi, Emily Drappeau, Nicole Jones, Kathy Zeglen, Jennae Alexander and Catie Castle finished sixth out of seven schools in Repechage 2. The Rams had a time of 6:39.402, beating Boston University (6:42.360). Michigan and SMU clinched the two spots in Saturday's A/B semis.  

In the Second Varsity 8+ flight, the team of coxswain Danielle Swan, stroke Emily Olin, Sam Gumprecht, Emory Caswell, Kat Gillies, Elizabeth Greason, Morgan Cody, Tinsley Copeland and Josephine Grady posted a time of 7:08.164 in the Repechage Round. The Rams were seventh out of seven schools. No. 6 Penn (6:22.838) and No. 8 Michigan (6:24.424) took the top two spots to clinch their spots in the A/B semifinals. Joining Rhode Island in the third and fourth semifinals were No. 15 Rutgers, No. 12 Syracuse, No. 16 Oregon State, and No. 22 Northeastern.

The Varsity 4+ boat of coxswain Caitlyn Muteru, stroke Sammie Gorecki, Alexis Moore, Sarah Pecoraro and Olivia Kowalski was sixth out of seven teams in its afternoon repechage. The Rams posted a time of 7:35.714 in Repechage 1, well ahead of Jacksonville (7:45.684). No. 10 Virginia (7:05.680) won the race, followed across the line by No. 8 USC (7:11.352).

Each of Rhode Island's boats will race again early on Saturday morning. The Varsity 8+ will be in Semifinal 4 of its flight against No. 14 Duke, No. 15 Rutgers, No. 17 USC, and No. 21 Jacksonville. The race is slated for 8:24 a.m.

In the 2V8+ flight, URI will race in Semifinal 3 against Gonzaga, Rutgers, USC and Oregon State at 9:00 a.m. Rhody's final race Saturday will be in Semifinal 3 of the Varsity 4+ flight. URI will race 14 Oregon State, No. 16 Syracuse, No. No. 19 Boston University and No. 20 Gonzaga at 9:48 a.m.
