SARASOTA, Fla. – Rhode Island used strong performances from each of its three boats on the final day of competition to place 21st in the team standings at the 2022 NCAA Women's Rowing Championship.
The Rams finished with 15 team points, putting them one spot ahead of Jacksonville (7 points) in the team standings. Texas repeated as the women's national champion, winning a tiebreaker with Stanford based on the finish in the Varsity 8+ final. Both schools finished with 124 team points, but Texas beat Stanford by just under five seconds to clinch the team title.
Rounding out the top five in the team standings were Princeton (118), Washington (112) and Yale (102). Â

Catie Castle competed in the D Final against No. 19 Northeastern, No. 20 Boston University and No. 22 Jacksonville. The Rams got off to a slow start, falling behind the other three boats in the first 500 meters.
However, with a strong surge over the second half of the course, Rhode Island overtook Jacksonville and established an opener-water advantage down the stretch. The Rams applied pressure on Northeastern as well, but they could not quite catch the Huskies, finishing third in the race and 21st in the flight. Boston University won the race with a dominant performance.

In a thrilling Second Varsity 8+ D Final, Rhode Island went against Gonzaga, Jacksonville and Northeastern. Rhody jumped out early and led through the first 500 meters before Gonzaga used a strong surge to take the lead. The Rams held on, crossing the finish line less than one second ahead of Northeastern. Rhody posted a time of 7:01.865, compared to Northeastern's time of 7:02.637. With the finish, the 2V8+ boat for URI placed 20th in its flight for the fourth straight appearance at the NCAA Championship. URI's 2V8+ boat had its second-fastest time of the championship on Sunday, nearly matching its opening heat time of 7:01.394.

Olivia Kowalski went up against Northeastern, Boston University and Jacksonville. Northeastern jumped out early and established open water over the field by the midpoint of the course.
Rhode Island used a strong push in the third quarter of the race to create their own open water lead over Jacksonville and BU. Rhody secured 20th place in the flight, matching the school's second-best finish in the V4+ at the NCAA Championship, which happened in 2016. URI's best finish was in 2019, when it took 19
th in the flight.
