How it Happened
Rhode Island claimed its fifth Atlantic 10 series of the season with an 11-7 win over Fordham Sunday afternoon.

Rhody led 6-0 after three innings of play, thanks to Anthony DePino's a first-inning grand slam and two-run single in the third.

Fordham put two runs on the board in the top of the fourth, but URI quickly got them back when Jack Cucinotta sent a two-run homer out in the bottom of the inning.

DePino scored again in the bottom of the fifth to add to Rhode island's lead. Jordan Laske had singled to left with DePino on first, but was thrown out 7-2-6-3 trying to stretch the hit into a double. That allowed DePino to cross the plate and put the Rams up 9-2.

Rhody got another run in the sixth – when Cucinotta scored on an RBI single by Addison Kopack – to increase the lead to 10-2. Fordham got the run back with a two-out, bases-loaded walk in the top of the seventh, but an RBI single from Justin Cherry scored pinch runner Tino Salgado in the bottom of the frame to push URI's lead back to eight (11-3).

Fordham sent four pinch hitters to the plate in the top of the ninth, and managed to score four runs on just two hits, but Broc French fanned Cian Sahler to end the late comeback attempt.

Inside the Box Score
  • Redshirt sophomore Addison Kopack continued his hot streak, going 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored, two walks and one RBI. He finished the weekend 8-for-12 (.667), with a .733 on-base percentage and a 1.250 slugging percentage.
  • With 47 runs batted in on the season, Kopack has moved into the ninth slot on Rhody's single-season RBI list.
  • Freshman Anthony DePino recorded six RBI on the day, thanks in part to his first career grand slam. He finished the day 2-for-3, was walked once, hit once and scored a pair of runs.
  • With 15 and 12 homers on the season, respectively, DePino (second) and Kopack (tied, fifth) both rank in URI's top-5 for single-season totals.
  • DePino is also half way to URI's career home run record of 30.
  • Grad student Jack Cucinotta hit his seventh homer of the season. He also walked once and finished the game with two runs scored and two RBI.
