How it Happened
Rhode Island dropped its season opener, falling 4-0 at NC State Thursday night.
The Wolfpack scored all of their goals in the first half. NC State struck first 13 minutes into play off a shot by Alexis Strickland. Leyah Hall-Robinson and Jenna Butler were both credited with the assist.
Hall-Robinson had a goal of her own to double the Wolfpack lead, beating Faith Hutchins in goal to find the back of the net. Strickland scored her second goal of the night less than five minutes later, using a header off a cross from Hall-Robinson for the 3-0 advantage.
NC State got on the board one more time before the break, after a corner kick led to a Taylor Chism touch to send the Wolfpack into the half up 4-0.
Rhode Island started out aggressive in the second half, getting a close shot off their first corner kick of the game by Hope Santaniello. The Rams had another opportunity behind a shot from Alyssa Fleming, but Maria Echezarreta was able to keep the shutout with the fourth save of the night.Â
